As an onion peeling away layers of time

Finding numerous skeletons, fossils

Dwellings and hieroglyphs are no crime

Bringing joy and knowledge truly colossal

These are the treasures of the ancestors

Reaching towards us to teach generations

To our world they were venerable investors

What is this age leaving in it’s wake? Damnation?

Plastic, steel and particleboard buried

Radiated ions and remnants of greed

Fragments of time wasted as life is so hurried

Remnants left are so scarce in art indeed.

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. So true. We will leave behind, plastics and metals and piles of junk, yet what are we creating these days for prosperity ? Great thought provoking piece πŸ™‚

  2. Your photograph alone makes a powerful statement, Carol. Your words enforce the idea well. It is truly ashamed how we dig holes in our earth to mine her resources, then dig more holes to bury our trash when we have used them up. Very sad, indeed.
