Spanish~OctPoWriMo Day 11

Sonsonate, El Salvador
Sonsonate, El Salvador

Told that languages weren’t her thing

She knew she would never understand

The embarrassment this would bring

Yet there was this quiet demand

We’re going to El Salvador!

Panic danced across her heart

Knowing that at this she would fail

This would surely tear her apart

Despite all this she set upon the trail

We’re going to El Salvador!

Learn the language she did

And communicated well

We went to El Salvador for 4 years.

The prompt:

“Think of a time where you surprised yourself. You set out to do something and you surprised yourself. You weren’t even sure if the goal was feasible. Maybe it was something you hadn’t done before. Maybe you did it against the advice of family and friends. Perhaps you had to war against your inner doubts to make it happen. But you did it anyway and you did it your way.

Tell us your success story.” Tamara Woods

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. Languages are both beautiful in what they allow us to achieve (communication) and frightening (what if we get it wrong and say something completely awful?).
    Good for you for learning!

    1. 🙂 I was there as a Baha’i pioneer. Similar to missionary but we don’t receive money. We go and find jobs and work side by side with the people of the country we choose! Thank you for reading and asking! ❤

  2. Good for you! I’ve had the honour of meeting some wonderful Baha’i pioneers in my travels in Africa. I thought you might be a Baha’i when I read your poem mentioning Tahireh removing her veil … keep up the good work 🙂
