Weapons were silenced
A hush fell over the Earth
World peace was a reality
~
On battlefields every where
Soldiers began to sing prayers
Weapons were silenced
~~
Refusing to fight anymore
For lands that were to be shared
A hush fell over the Earth
~~~
Rushing across the fields
Anxious to know their enemies
World peace was a reality
They studied war no more
“In the spirit of Guy Fawkes Night, I call upon you to write a poem which celebrates something that never happened. I’ll let you interpret that however you want. Feel free to get as creative as you want…maybe even have yourself a cheerful bonfire to boot!”
I’m hoping the lyric power of your poem will spellbind the members of Isis. With tears streaming from their eyes they will set their guns down and lay down their violent struggle.
what a beautiful sentiment! during Christmas 1914 there was a brief spontaneous truce by allies and axis soldiers who did like what your poem described. soon the generals told their officers to shoot those soldiers who didn’t pick up their rifles and start shooting again. one day true world peace will happen.
