Reading the news by the midnight oil
Her mind finally engaged and aware
This was her time for her own mind
~
The crinkling noise inspired reflection
Eager to learn and use her numbing mind
Reading the news by the midnight oil
~
Her days filled with service to her family
Catering to their every want and desire
Her mind finally engaged and aware
~
Mother always told her a woman’s place
But she was smart and now she knew it
This was her time for her own mind

this is reminds me so much of my mother! She’d read at night and woe to anyone who interrupted that sacred time for anything short of a life threatening injury! 🙂

Lol. I remember my mom too. It was a nightly ritual in many homes! Thank you!

I do love any of the forms that use repetition as a structural device. The effect of the repeated lines suits the content of your poem, as they are the critical three.

we all need a little down time, and someone in charge of a household, what a full-time job!! I’d recommend some herbal tea just to make her private time sweeter. maybe hubby could even rub her feet. Great repetition.
