Green Time

Birds happily nesting in the bright greens

Starbursts of color orbit the meadows

Beavers busily constructing their dreams

Fragrances of joy fill the air with all that it bestows

Sap courses faster through the stately pines

As ice and snow melt the rivers as they overflow

Children are loosed again to play as the sun shines

Shouting, “here we come, ready set GO”

This week at Shadorma and Beyond, Georgia challenges us to write a hymn which is a poem of 5 eight line stanzas with 4 stress lines. The rhyme scheme is ABABCDCD. Lines 1, 3, 5 and 7 aend in a single syllable rhyme. Lines 2, 4, 6, and 8, in a two-syllable rhyme. The former is called a masculine rhyme and the latter a feminine one. Our prompt word was “Spring”. I did not write 5 stanzas. I hope that is okay!

Thanks, Georgia!

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. A marvellous hymn to spring and of course you needn’t have written 5 stanzas, the very thought! I could feel the sap running and children playing – you’ve written a fantastic piece her Carol … my compliments indeed! Happy New Year and may spring shine on you the year round! Bastet.
