Flowering Quince

Flowering Quince Used With Permission of Kanzensakura

The land before me is white and very cold as I walk down my country lane. Smells of wood burning and Pinon suffuses. A blurred world that hides the potential of the changing seasons. I need the exercise so I move.

~

Above my hatted head, I catch sight of a beautiful falcon lazily spiraling. Light reflects in the tiny snow crystals collected on every surface I see. There is a white rabbit barely noticeable because of his color that matches the snow. Look! There is a burst of color. A flowering quince blanketed with Winter’s powder.

~

A promise of Spring.

Haibun Monday – 5

Kanzensakura lends is beautiful photo to the pub gatherers this week for haibun Monday.

“So today, I would like you all to write a haibun based on the photograph. Please use the compact haibun form for this: one or two tight paragraphs with one haiku, in fewer than 200 words. The photograph will be used in your post. I ask only that you make note of the caption below the photograph and also add “Used by permission”.”

Please go explore the wonderful writers at the pub!

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. I see, like I have, you felt the need to introduce animals into the scene. It simply needs them to bring meaning to the photo I believe. However, you have chosen animals whose entities are as symbolic and meaningful as the idea of a bloom in snow. Wonderful.

  2. You did a masterful job working with Toni’s image prompt, set the scene wonderfully. I, too, like to introduce animals in my writings, especially prose, to create a sense of authenticity for the scene.
