Tugged~Ottava Rima

Tugged Circe Denyer
Circe Denyer

Many colors and smells so very divine

Attract my eye and water my parched lips

Enticing me towards mercy and health so fine

About their selection, I have many tips

One day my soft heart surely gave me a sign

Stay away from those steaks that come in long strips

Must admit, at first like a child I did whine

I truthfully don’t care what is on your plate

Mine, a vegan heart that is not filled with hate

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. one day we will all eat healthy again. for those who continue to eat meat, animals will be processed in a halal (sacred) manner, like native americans who thanked the spirit of the animal for allowing itself to be sacrific

  2. Nice poem. Switched to a vegan diet almost five months ago and it has been wonderful. The dairy and egg industries are as cruel to the animals as the meat industry. Moreover, the environmental impact of animal-based diets is catastrophic for the planet.
