No matter what feelings I had, I chose to either call on a lady friend or tap on the worn keys of my trusty Spinet. They were inextricably interwoven. Each influencing the other. Today, Freddie Is on my mind. She is a feisty dame with attitude to match a mans but she had won my rogue heart. I married her and have written songs to her since. Freddie is my music. Now, I am dying in a sanatorium. People think that I’m out of my head but I know what’s going on. I’ll miss you, babe.

The prompt this week was to write a short (100 words or less) using the picture prompt above. Rochelle inspired us with the tragic life and love of Scott Joplin and his wife, Freddie Joplin. I followed that idea. For more information on their story see the above link. 🙂

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  2. On wonders if the “Freddie” on your mind was Frederick Chopin 🙂 He didn’t die in a sanitarium (at least I don’t think he did; I haven’t gotten to his biography yet, but his music has been spoken about in some lectures I bought) but he was a brilliant pianist. The piano was his voice. 🙂
