Burning~Liberally Free Verse

Carolin Knopf Magpie Tales
Caroline Knopf

My eyes stare into the depths

Searching for the signs of life

So far beyond the title of wife

Fishing for the family’s fare

My dress is wet and soiled

My hair always disheveled

Children are fed, not spoiled

May not grow up bejeweled

I call out to the fish to surface

Know full well my daily purpose

What we have surely does suffice

Their growth is worth the price

Written for Magpie Tales who provided the interesting picture. I let loose with the rhyme scheme. Not according to rules but it just seemed to fit.

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

      1. You’re welcome 🙂 it’s stressful. Some updates to our hardware broke parts of the websites I manage. Plus today one of the projects I have been working on for months went live. So it was crazy. I am hoping for a quieter day tomorrow. I have so much work to do and I’m tired of spending 8 hours a day in crisis mode…how is your week going? I hope it’s been wonderful.
