I walked into your room
The one in which I had just bathed you
The one where we had laid on the bed and talked
You wanted to share memories
You wanted me to remember
And to know
To know that you loved me
That you were sorry that you…
That room
A room that smelled of Chanel #5
Where we could hear your grandson playing outside
Where we laughed and celebrated your
Your precious life
And then, when I walked into that room
Your spirit had departed
Returned to the one love of your life
Oh sure, your body was there but
I remember the feeling of so many souls
Surrounding you as you were rising up
Up to that place that held all the people that you loved
Except us
We stay here til our appointed time
When that day comes
I will reminisce with you again
I will put my head on your lap
I will feel comforted
As we both leave behind
That room.

Poetics – Room With or Without a View
Mary is hosting poetics this time and she has asked us to write about a room. In her words:
“That brings me to the prompt for today: I think it will be kind of fun to reflect on ‘rooms’ or ‘a room’ in poetry. Have you ever entered a room and found that someone you didn’t want to see was there, but now that you were there you knew you had to stay? Do you have a memory of your childhood bedroom or childhood kitchen? Or attic? Or basement? Do you have a ‘room memory’ as an adult? A hotel room? An office? Your grandmother’s living room? A hospital room? What is the room like? Its smell? Who is there in the room? Or is it empty? What emotions does the room bring about? Does anyone speak? Describe a scene in a particular room – real or imagined?
Or looking at ROOM in another way: Is the room itself a character? (Perhaps use personification?) Or is the room a part of the background…..or the foreground? What would the room say if it could speak? Example: What would the hospital room (is someone dying) say? What would the dining room (who is eating?) say?
Try to use as many senses as you can. Bring the room and/or experiences within the room alive vividly.
I really hope you will make the presence of the ROOM felt. I am excited about this prompt and hope you will find it interesting too.”

What a blessing to have had the opportunity to reminisce in that room, and to be at peace that you’ll see her again. This is beautiful. Peace, Linda

Some room memories are so intense, filled with emotion, that they will live on long after the experience… A very evocative reminiscence! And always the hope to meet again.

That room seems to have had some maybe not so loving things happen in it. Like so many of our rooms do… Thank you for sharing your story, Carol, I enjoyed it.

This is an excellent response to prompt… i really like how some thoughts are left hanging… exactly like in real life we are sometimes left with threads not tied…. wonderful and sad.

This made the poem for me … the rhyme, but also the positioning of vibrant new life next to loss and death.

This really resonates with the loss of a departed soul and the room is so central to such a sad memory but you also convey some hope too. Beuatifully written.

Such a beautiful response to a death experience. Few people understand that death can be a beautiful as birth in the right circumstances. This was very emotive. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

So much happens in one room and leaving that room the final time leaving others behind is so sad! There were a few poems about death this week, my mom died 2 years ago on Valentine’s Day so the holiday isn’t the same anymore.
What a wonderful prompt sorry I missed it but I’ll try to join in next week.
