Let Out~Tercet

Through the Fence by G.S.K

Release me from this backyard

It is a suburban prison house

I want to go climb that mountain

~

Let me run until my lungs explode

Free to reach the top with no barriers

I want to see what I will see up there

~

I will dismantle this fence for sure

Just you watch me, one paw at a time

Ruff, ruff, ahhhwoooo

Georgia is asking us to explore the poetry tool of the tercet. I find myself in a playful mood these last few days so this is what I came up with. Thank you, Georgia!

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. This is great! I was trying to figure out how to attack this form. I love what you did with it. It’s so engaging and your poem flows easily between stanzas. The description of the form left me wondering if such fluidity was possible but you have proven it so!

      1. You’re welcome 🙂 I still haven’t come up with anything for this one. You’re right that it should be easy. I am so used to counting syllables that I’m having a hard time breaking out of that.
