you kissed the very rope

that would martyr you

in doing so you gave us hope

strength to stand witness

to our Faith in all lands

with love you continue to bless

women look to you and Tahirih

your martyrdoms so pure

intercede for us as we bow to pray

they took you at sixteen years

from your children’s sides

didn’t know you had no fears

“recant your Faith” they screamed

a smile graced your lips

more strength than they dreamed

“This where I’ve got to be”

“Take my life, take it all away”

Dance Mona, dance!

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. WOW–the magnificent poem between two powerful songs–Mona–someday, someday there will need be martyrs no more:
“This where I’ve got to be”
“Take my life, take it all away”
    Dance Mona, dance!
Thank you for your faith, thank you for your witness.

  2. As a transperson, this poem resonated, very strongly, to me. As we tell each other, every November 20th, please let there be no more names, to add to roll of those, killed, for being true to themselves, as we, as community, honour them, with a Day Of Trans-Remembrance. One can only hope, the days of becoming martyrs, is near, its end.
