My steps crunch as I walk upon the desert sand
Truly there is no need to take my hand
I have walked these Southwestern trails for many years
Here, I have overcome my many fears
~
This is the land of my enchanted, sacred quest
Where I felt my heart beating in my chest
God’s fine lands of two ancient and sacred cultures
As one amongst the Artist’s grand sculptures

Poetics – Sentiments of the Southwest
Mish, the fantastic photographer that took the above photo is our tender today and she asked us to write about one of my favorite places on earth, the Southwest! I lived there for over 11 years and its peoples changed my whole way of viewing the world as well as the landscapes still take my breath away! God’s land! Thanks, Mish!

But it is by that said sentiment one would wish to ( take your hand) to share what is all before you. no, not just what is to come or the past memory checksum. no there is no need to take your hand, but within the said same sentiment one would want to. or sum it up with a virtual hug 😛 good morning to you.

Thank you. Yes they are perfect. They are each unique too.

Beautiful. It’s easy to understand why Native Americans venture into the desert alone for their vision quests. Seek and ye shall find.

Enchanted sacred quest – beautiful line that says so much! But the line that speaks so much to me is – no need to take my hand. Bold & confident, giving credit to the place.

I also love the desert for its sacred aloneness–I think there is a bit of the hermit in us, Carol.

I lived in S. CA for a decade before returning to my native W. WA state, with huge volcanos in the ring of fire, deep forests running the width of it in the foothills of two mountain ranges; but over twenty years of road trips, crossing the SW on the way to TX to see in-laws has given much more appreciation for desert landscapes.

Breathtaking tribute to the Southwest. I adore this. Thank you for the very kind words that followed as well. You chose one of my favourites overlooking the Grand Canyon.

Wonderful use of rhyme here. The southwest is my home, and although I crave Lake, ocean, sea…I do appreciate its beauty.

Breathtaking. And somehow, your background screen shot that has everything you write “floating” with it, goes perfectly too, even though there is the shore. How did you do that by the way? I love the effect.
Yes — the vastness of the land in the southwest, the empty spaces you can always find, there is a beauty to it like no other. Have you read Joy Harjo and Stephen Strom’s Secrets from the Center of the World? My son gave it to me this past Christmas, knowing of my new found interest in poetry. Joy Harjo is a member of the Creek Nation, and the author of She Had Some Horses and other books of poems. Stephen Strom is a photographer who teaches or taught at Navajo Community College in Tsaile. I think you would abosolutely love the words of Harjo.

Carol, it’s like coming home, before you were even born, isn’t it? The Grand Canyon is so beautifully awesome. In hiking it in one day it nearly killed me but I lived to tell the tale!!
