Black Like the Pupil of the Eye

The black sea surrounded by white

The darkness that receives the light

The place where the light is dispersed

Without guile; without being rehearsed

That sea of white dependent upon the black

The function of the being without attack

What would happen to that beautiful sack

If it were not for that powerful spot of black

As in the human eye so in humanity

Where white folks often lose their sanity

To greed, lust, and powerful profanity

We get lost in a bog of our own vanity

Look in the eye of truth’s vessel

The Pupil where God’s truths nestle

They truly are our family not our vassal

We must love and cease to hassle

The black roses

The ebony warriors

The blackness where the light shines

Rich, spiritual dark earth

Understanding born of suffering

African Kings and Queens

Love is all that is real

Celebrate all hues!

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.
