Hail and hearty laughter
Hearkens all in the room
Harried conversations
Halted by a moment
Hush appears synchronized
Having a shared silence
Heartbeats the only sound

Margaret is tending the Play it Again promot in the Garden this time. She ressurects 3 past prompts from which we may choose. I chose Mary’s from March 2013 called Mixed Bag Friday where Mary asked for poems about the ordinary. Here’s that link too:

Awesome, Carol! I’ve experienced that phenomenon or when someone laughs too loud or says something “politically incorrect or whatever” and the hush that follows all can hear a pin drop. LOVE the image you paired these words with!!! Thank you! ❤

It wasn’t really funny at all, was it Carol? But we do laugh at the unusual even when it’s sad, irreligious, politically incorrect or causes hurt feelings, etc, etc. And often your “hush” appears spontaneously for the entire group. Thank you for expressing this phenomenon so brilliantly.

This reminds me of that song “There’s a kind of hush, all over the world.” I think it’s Herman’s Hermits? Lol!

There were moments of surprise, shock or even embarrassment. Such events, the moment they occurred were immediately greeted with a hushed silence. Very true Carol!

I love the alliteration. This is a brilliant poem about that moment when everything stops. Sometimes its awkward, sometimes expectant, but it’s always something!

I look forward to the day when we can find comfort in each other’s silences. Thank you so much for your kind comment!

I like how you pick a watery picture to MAYBE underscore “harried conversations” as if they’re the tides.

sometimes what follows the silence is more real than the laughter.
