They told us we couldn’t be friends
We were not supposed to be close
Did we have too many differences in the end?
In your silence you taught me the most
~
Violence from white to black our friendship stole
Couldn’t take the risk of the bond with a white girl
From that I learned the power in life of race’s role
We needed the dignity and force of unity in our world
~
On the television I watched as we stood strong
Humanity crying out for real and lasting change
Strong black leaders calling us away from wrong
My parents ignorant prejudice so very vast in range
~
In junior high we were polarized by senseless rape
Our togetherness divided and disillusioned
Parents threatened to send me away the riots to escape
O my God there was so much chaos and confusion
~
Through it all I felt our essential oneness
That truly we are of the same blood and I held on
Routing out the traces of ancestral self righteousness
Focusing on the truth of this Day’s unifying Sun
~
Time again to peacefully stand for the truth
Take to the streets with strength and honor
Arm in arm together we shall not be moved
We must address these crimes against our brothers
It is time.

This is written in response to a challenge put forth by http://oneness.org and http://facebook/Moaninsuns.com
Asking for art, stories, poems or just our experiences with deadly racism (all racism is deadly) shared on any social media with the #AllOfUsAreBlood
A great way to bring us together through our commonalities!
One planet, one people, please.
Powerful writing Carol 💞

This is one of my lifelong passions. Which is true for the majority of us, huh?

I wasn’t really around during this time, but I remember the stories. There are still scars left behind from it.
You are very eloquent and amazing at setting the mood, Carol.
Also, I’m sorry I’m slow to catch up. I’m very busy and will check in as often as I can. Please don’t think I’m forgetting you 🙂
