Arms hug empty space
Closing tightly and alone
Filling them with me

Yes, such a strong image. Everyone leaves an empty space in the world when they leave it. Well done.

One of the things that I love about this poem is that any of us can apply it to anyone. You speak of deep loss in so few words.

The teddy bear does look like he’s missing you. I loved this poem. We all know that feeling of arms holding empty space. So well expressed.

One is at a loss thinking of someone not there for that moment. It is emptiness physically and mentally!

The emotional empty space is as strongly felt as is the physical. That bear does have a mournful kind of look on his sweet face…

I love the image of filling the empty arms “with me.” I find comfort in that, more than sadness. But then “arms around self” is one of my mantras, one of the sets of words that keeps me strong when I’m anxious.

When all is said & done, all we ever have left is our self. Empty space can have as many faces as we imagine or decide, but yes, it still re-emerges as empty. Hug thy self; damn rights, the first step in inner health.

Arms around self – yes indeed. In spite of the pain or loss, hug yourself, nurture yourself. Simply lovely and simply wise.
