Winter Beach

I love the beach no matter what the weather. In fact, Winter is my favorite time on the coastline. The snow placed gently on the sand making a white and tan wonderland. That day I walked down to the shore with the intention of walking around. When I got there, I found a curious sight. It was a flock of seagulls having a conference on the snow. I peacefully stood there and wondered if it was harder for them to find the tender morsels buried deep in clam beds.

Heeding Haiku with Chevrefeuille

Chevrefeuille asks us to write a haibun of no more than 100 words including the haiku about Winter.

I have been writing all my life but for the most part, it has been a secret. My parents did not believe writing was a good way to earn money so I hid my poems. Then one day, I wanted to comment on an essay that a friend had written and found myself with a blog. That quiet whisper inside said, "You can write your poetry and no one will ever know.". I knew nothing of followers and the like at that time. So, here I am trying to learn my craft and enjoying every moment of it. My personal details are, I'm 57, married for 39 years, have one grown son who is God's gift to us and last but not least at all, I'm a Baha'i which basically means that I love all humanity.

  1. There is something special about the beach in winter, though I’ve never seen one with snow. A lovely haibun and what a breath-taking photo! Bravo!

  2. What a lovely image you have shared with us today, Carol! I could hear that noisy squabble of a conference that made me smile and imagined myself on the shores in Maine. I would love to see the oceanside in winter some day.

  3. For the longest time I only associated the beach or shore with good weather.
There is a magic that you aptly describe when winter enters the scene.
I wish I were close enough to be near an ocean – but my little creek will have to do.
