I had risen earlier than the others as is my wont to do. Mornings hold a sacred energy that I enjoy connecting with even in the cold weather. It’s profound to feel the blue quiet of the slow awakening of life throughout my half of the world. That morning, I decided to make my way to the lake. I love the way the sun reflects her gentle light on the mirror-like surface. I quietly recited my morning prayers with a depth that only dawn can allow. I felt very grateful and that feeling stayed with me all day.

“Maybe you can remember our “Time Glass” feature in which I gave you 24 hours (or sometimes less) to respond. I love to bring that feature back, but with another “name” and as a part of our regular prompts. As you all know haiku is the response on an event as short as the sound of a pebble thrown into water. Haiku is an impression of such a short moment, an eye-blink or a heart beat.
To make you aware of that short moment I have re-created “Time Glass” but now as “Throw that pebble”. “Throw that pebble” is a time challenge and I challenge you to respond on our regular prompt within 24 hours. I am aware of the fact that we all live in different time-zones, so I think you all have time to respond on this feature within 24 hours. Let’s go and throw that pebble into water.

As I said above I will use our regular prompts for “Throw that pebble” (and I have adapted our logo for that, as you can see). The prompt for today (as planned) is dawn. So I love to challenge you to respond within 24 hours on this episode of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. Say …. this regular episode is an episode “with a twist”. You have to respond within 24 hours. Good luck!

wow I need to adopt that as my morning ritual!

I have always been a morning person, much to my night-owl husband’s dismay! 😉

I flipflop between morning person and night owl 🙂 There is no rhyme or reason to that flipflopping–or none that I have found! I blame my circadian rhythms.

We all have different inner clocks, for sure!

Yes but I like your poetic rendering of morning rituals better than my crazy inner clock’s!

I see. I used to fight against my inner timing but now I just go with it. Some times though, I would love to sleep late!

yes but then you wake late and find that half the day is gone and you’ve accomplished nothing 😦

I get that. It must be very difficult. My husband is like that but he seems content. Blessings, dearheart!

Ah but if you’re like me, you just stay up later to get done what you’d intended and then the next day you wake even later and an ugly cycle ensues until your clock resets 🙂

Doesn’t sound nice. I hope that cycle ends for you!

it always does; I end up staying up so late it’s the next day and then I end up early to bed which begins a period of early risings 🙂

Oh okay. I’m glad to hear it’s not constant. I guess if it were you’d be either sleeping all the time or awake all the time! 😉

quite true. My job makes a morning person out of me m-f. It’s just vacations where my inner clock gets muddled.

That’s totally understandable!

😀 I’ll bet it makes morning persons out of a lot of folks

What a wonderful haibun-like post … must be awesome to be in such a morning mood to watch the sun rises while saying your daily prayers. Chapeau Carol … I bow to you in admiration …

Am very grateful, Chevrefeuille!

Was it not a haibun because it wasn’t about a journey. I am still learning 🙂

I am not certain if haibun has to be about a journey it’s known like that. I have other ideas about haibun … it’s a short story in which prose and poetry are entwined. I will ask Jane Reichhold about it.

calling out to the sun, something that seems so small, but in really is so large, as is our spirit.
